"Due to safety requirements, the new security fence needed to be in- stalled 5' inside of the property and portions of the boundary lines were unclear," said Kalena. "We contracted Landmark Surveying, Inc. of Harahan, La. to establish the property lines in question along the northern most areas of the airport." The perimeter of the airport had a total of 42 cantilever sliding gates and swing gates fabricated and installed by U.S. Fence & Gate. The main en- trances to the airport had automated gate systems. The four 20' opening aluminum slide gates were 8' tall plus 1' of barbed wire with double track post assemblies, fabricated by Elite Fence Products, Inc. of Chesterfield Twp., Mich. and installed by U.S. Fence & Gate crews. Four hydraulic B&B operators and safety devices for the aluminum slide gates were supplied by Steve Hale of Access Automation & Con- trols Group of Baton Rouge, La., as well as two vertical pivot gates from AutoGate Gate Entry Systems of Berlin Heights, Ohio, which were used for emergency access into the airport. U.S. Fence & Gate subcontracted Clemente Rivera with Electrical Con- tracting Services, LLC. of Lake Charles, La., to complete all ground- ing systems of the perimeter fence and run 1" rigid conduit onto the new se- curity fence that contained power and telecommunication lines to the exist- ing guard shacks, Kalena noted. Also critical to the project was Chad Folse with Johnson Controls, who integrated all the security systems for the sliding gates into the main se- curity system for the airport. The NOAB security office needed warning signs installed around the en- tire perimeter of the airport. In loca- tions with high visibility, the warning signs were spaced on 100' centers on the new fencing and on all gates, as well as gate number signs identifying each gate. In areas with lower visibil- ity, the signs were spaced on 200' cen- ters. All signage was manufactured by Bossier Sign Co., Inc. in Bossier City, La. and handled by Larry Schaan. When the fence was completed and backfilled, J.C. Cheek Contractor, Inc. in New Orleans performed seed- ing services inside and outside of the fence and in areas where disruption of soils had occurred to give the new perimeter of the airport an undisturbed appearance. Above, the security office of the NOAB had special demands to install 18" stain- less steel barbed tape on top of the fence in areas where obstructions were located 5' or less from the fence. Shown above is one of four 20' opening aluminum cantilever slide gates furnished by Elite Fence Products and installed by U.S. Fence & Gate crews. The slide gates are 8' tall topped with 1' of barbed wire. continued on next page
