PSB FOCUS NADAguides.com shows wholesale, retail value trends BY DAVE McMAHON EDITOR IN CHIEF Nearly 4 out of 5 sport UTVs that were searched on NADAguides.com during the first quarter of 2014 were Polaris vehicles, according to data provided exclusively to Powersports Business from NADA Guides. Polaris garnered 77 percent of the sport side-by-side searches on the website from January through March, ahead of Kawasaki (12 percent), Yamaha (4 percent) and Arctic Cat and Can-Am (2 percent each). Other brands combined to make up 3 percent of the searches. Polaris took the top four spots in searches of sport side-by-side models in Q1. The RZR led the pack, with the RZR S, RZR XP and Ranger RZR 4 Robby Gordon models rounding out the top four. The Kawasaki Teryx4 sits in the No. 5 spot, ahead of the Can-Am Maverick, Polaris RZR XP 4 1000, Arctic Cat Wildcat, Polaris RZR 4 and Kawasaki Teryx. WHOLESALE, RETAIL VALUES BY MODEL YEAR TREND UPWARD Wholesale values of sport UTVs have marched steadily upward since 2007, when the aver- age wholesale value was $5,995. As of 2013, that number has risen to $9,338. In 2012, the wholesale value on average for sport UTVs was $8,340. Similarly, the average retail value of sport UTVs in 2007 was $6,935. As of 2013, the average retail value was $11,635, an increase of more than $1,100 from 2012. When considering the average wholesale and retail value of sport UTVs by engine size, the data shows only slight variances from July- Aug. 2013 to May-June 2014. A 601-800cc sport UTV that was purchased by the dealer- ship in July-Aug. 2013 had an average price of $8,419. As of the May-June 2014 book, that same average is down to $7,832. Simi- larly, wholesale values of 801cc-plus sport UTVs went from $12,200 in July-Aug. 2013 to $11,398 in May-June 2014. 77% 12% 4% 2% 2% 3% 0% 10% 20% 30% 40% 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% Polaris Kawasaki Yamaha Arctic Cat Can-Am Other NADAguides.com Traffic Most Researched Sport Side by Side Brands in 2014 Q1 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Average Wholesale $5,995 $5,851 $6,445 $6,751 $7,911 $8,340 $9,338 Average Retail $6,935 $7,195 $7,959 $8,530 $9,980 $10,494 $11,635 $0 $5,000 $10,000 $15,000 NADAguides Sport Side By Side Average Wholesale & Retail Values by Model Year Values as of May 2014 22 • July 13, 2014 • Powersports Business www.PowersportsBusiness.com This issue: UTV-Sport Next issue: Finance & Insurance / Compliance AN INSIDE LOOK AT PRE-OWNED SPORT UTVS See NADA, Page 30 TOP 10 RESEARCHED SPORT SIDE BY SIDE MODELS IN 2014 Q1 MOST RESEARCHED SPORT SIDE BY SIDE BRANDS IN 2014 Q1 NADAGUIDES SPORT SIDE BY SIDE AVERAGE WHOLESALE & RETAIL VALUES BY MODEL YEAR Values as of May 2014 Rank Make Model 1 Polaris RZR 2 Polaris RZR® S 3 Polaris RZR® XP 4 Polaris RANGER RZR 4 ROBBY GORDON 5 Kawasaki Teryx4™ 6 Can-Am Maverick 7 Polaris RZR® XP 4 1000 8 Arctic Cat Wildcat 9 Polaris RZR® 4 10 Kawasaki Teryx® Source: NADAguides, Inc.
