Also featured was an article on Churchill High School in Eugene, Oregon getting an outfield fence. The school needed a fence for some time, but, because of budget cuts, was un- able to swing it. Evergreen Fence & Lumber donated materials and labor to fence the field. The baseball team and some parents pitched in to help as well. • The 1991 Fence Truck Contest kicked off with several entries. • WFN contributing editor Jim Lucci examined the traits that effective managers of small businesses must possess. Good management starts with solid planning and effective goal set- ting, Lucci said. • WFN contributing editor Herb Borner explored the ins and outs of the specifications that apply to chain link fencing materials. His advice for con- tractors is "know thy specs." • Jim Hart ran into a fence job that was strictly "for the birds." • The housing recovery continued despite a slow June. September 1996 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the Sep- tember 1996 issue of World Fence News, 15 years ago this month. • The cover photo for September was an unusual rustic and attractive English five bar gate. Although just now being popularized in North Amer- ica by Snug Cottage Imports, Inc., of London, Ontario, Canada, the design had been common in the British Isles for two centuries, according to Snug Cottage founder Geoff Faulkner.
