46 • NOVEMBER 2014 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Ameristar accepts the Ice Bucket Challenge at Michigan Chapter AFA golf outing On August 21 the Michigan Chap- ter AFA held its annual golf outing at Sycamore Hills Golf Course in Mt. Clemens, Mich. "It was an awesome day with a great turnout of contractors and suppliers showing off their golf- ing skills," reported Dick Fromm of Elite Fence Products, event chairman. "However, we had to reconsid- er the winner of the 'Closest to the Pin' contest when we found a post hole digger in his golf bag!" Fromm commented. After the dinner recep- tion, things got cold for Robert Miller from Ameristar Perimeter Security, an ASSA ABLOY group brand. Robert's daughter challenged him to the "Ice Bucket Challenge" for ALS. Robert's efforts in rallying the troops helped raise $220 for his bone chilling deluge of ice and water in re- membrance of commercial estimator Jim LaPash, who passed away from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, in 2007. Neil LaPash of Elite Fence Prod- ucts said, "It was an awesome gesture on Rob's part to do this in honoring my dad." The Michigan Chapter couldn't leave Robert out in the cold. Chapter president Tom Bement of Fence Consultants of West Michigan and chapter treasurer Dick Fromm graciously matched the monies col- lected and will be sending the dona- tion to ALS of Michigan. The Michigan Chapter was pleased to host special guests Ken and Eloise Roberts of Imperial Fence of Rick Novak, Indus- trial Fence & Land- scaping, a member of the winning team for the outing, had the honor of dump- ing the Ice Bucket on Robert Miller from Ameristar Perimeter Security, an ASSA ABLOY group brand.
