The concept behind a free exit loop is the gate user already passed se- curity entering the property, why should they pass security to go out? To get the most use of the auto- matic open loop, it should be installed up the driveway inside the property so that as someone is exiting, by the time they reach the gate it will be com- pletely open for them. The formula below will calculate the distance (in feet) the automatic open loop should be placed while maintaining a desired miles per hour. X x Y x 1.46 = Z X = Time for the gate to open in seconds. WIRE DRAWING LINE PVC EXTRUSION LINE • chain link slat weaving machine • barbed wire • tie wire machine FAX: Hablamos Español Y = Desired MPH to reach gate. You might be a redneck if.... • You hunt from your bedroom window. • Your dad walks you to school because you're both in the same grade. • You go to your local ice cream store and order Copenhagen "sprinkles" on your cone. • The officer who just pulled you over asks if you have any I.D. and you re- spond "About whut?" • You take a beer to a job interview. • When you finish eating your bologna you use the rind for dental floss. MEMBER The little things make a big im- pression on customers. As installers, we want to make a gate that works, but we often overlook the small features, the simple things that really make our gate installations stand out. We all know that if a customer re- ally likes your installation they will recommend your work to a friend or neighbor, and a referral is one of our best sales tools to increase business. A good exercise is to put yourself in the owner's shoes and see how your system would perform under their standards. A commonly overlooked feature on a gate system with loops is the au- tomatic open. When a vehicle drives over this loop the gate will automati- cally open for them, adding the con- venience of a hands-free exit. The automatic open loop is com- monly known as a "free exit loop" be- Automatic open / exit loop formula • The same gate, but the customer wants to drive at 12 MPH would read: 9 x 12 x 1.46 = 167.6 ft. • If same customer has a very long driveway and wants to drive 19 MPH the formula would read: 9 x 19 x 1.46 = 249.7ft. Most loop manufacturers will have available 60 ft. and 100 ft. lead- ins as standard stock items. Custom lead-in lengths of 250 ft. are common, but are available up to 1000 ft. If you are not offering automatic exit loops you could be missing out on an opportunity to "up sell" your in- stallations and make additional profit. The gate operator has the interface to perform the exit loop function; all you need to do is install a loop and de- tector module and the customer will get more enjoyment from this time saving feature on their morning com- mute.
