A Look Ahead FENCETECH 2013 EXHIBIT FLOOR HOURS Wednesday (2/27) ........ noon - 6 p.m. Thursday (2/28) ............ noon - 6 p.m. Friday (3/1) .................. 9 a.m. - noon different types of plan sheets in a plan set; interpreting a blueprint by under- standing the various components on individual plan sheets; and accurately calculating basic construction math equations. Post Hole Digging Wednesday (2/27) 7:30 a.m - 9:30 a.m. Post hole digging may seem like a simple task at first glance. However, post holes are the foundation of every fence and must be correctly prepared to ensure that posts are properly aligned and anchored. There are a variety of fence types and each requires a specific depth and diameter post hole. Each job site is unique and will present different chal- lenges. No two jobs will be identical in their terrain, soil type, structures or un- foreseen underground obstructions. If each post hole is not dug properly, the integrity of the fence may be compro- mised. Concrete Mixing Thursday (2/28) 7:30 a.m - 9:30 a.m. Concrete is an important element in setting fence posts. Concrete is not used to make fences stronger, but to provide compressive strength around posts. Concrete must be mixed in accor- dance with the type of fence being built and the environment in which the fence will be installed. This module will provide a work- ing knowledge of what concrete is, how it can be modified for specific purposes and how to properly design and mix a load of concrete for a par- ticular job. Post Setting & Anchoring Friday (3/1) 7:30 a.m - 9:30 a.m Most job sites are not found on flat terrain with easy-to-dig soils. Differ- ing topographies, ground conditions and man-made obstacles are often en- countered and present challenges in setting posts properly. This module will teach students post setting methods in a variety of ap- plications. Methodology will be taught for setting posts in concrete, driving posts into the ground, core drilling and an- choring posts with flanges and/or plates where other methods cannot be used.
