WORLD FENCE NEWS • DECEMBER 2012 • 63 New hinges expand SHUT IT's BadAss gate hardware line TUCSON, Ariz. – SHUT IT Gate Hardware has announced the addition of two new hinges to their line of pre- mier gate hardware, stating that "the newest BadAss gate hinges will be the strongest hinges available in the in- dustry to date." The first offering is the new BadAss Barrel Hinge. This hinge is uniquely designed to be used in both weld-on and bolt-on applications. The hinge has the ability to open a full 180 degrees. Additionally, in- stallers have the ability to reduce the gap between the end post and the gate frame to less than ½ an inch, which is well suited for high security situations. "For high security instal- lations, our new BadAss Barrel Hinge will be a game changer," commented Skip Bengtson, self-described "chief badass" at SHUT IT. He added, "The BadAss Barrel Hinge has a load ca- pacity that ex- ceeds that of any hinge that has ever been marketed to our industry. In our testing, we came to re- alize that the load capacity of the welds attaching the hinge to our test gate were going to be the weak point in the system, thus making the load strength of the hinge conceptually ir- relevant." BadAss Barrel Hinge BadAss Uphill Hinge The second new hinge for SHUT IT is the BadAss Uphill Hinge Set, which is designed for installations that have significant changes in elevation. Like other uphill hinges on the market, SHUT IT's hinges are built with long "straps" that enable the gate to be welded onto the end post at an angle, allowing the gate to swing in an upward/downward motion that is par- allel with the terrain. Each set of BadAss Uphill Hinges comes with one hinge that has a 10 inch strap and a second one with a 6 inch strap, which provides optimal amount of flexibility and the least amount of potential excess material that will need to be moved after instal- lation is complete. Unlike other uphill hinges, the BadAss Uphill Hinges use SHUT IT's unique and patented sealed roller bear- ing and spacer design, which elimi- nates a significant amount of friction in a swing gate system. "Our near frictionless bearing sys- tem is particularly important in uphill installations with automated gates, as the operators are generally under much more stress by having to move a gate against gravity," stated Bengtson. "As with the BadAss Barrel Hinge, the BadAss Uphill Hinge Set has a load capacity that is greater than any other uphill solution on the market." BD Loops hosts its "Everything You Need to Know about Loops" seminar at NAFCA Gate Operator Training School The North American Fence Con- tractors Association (NAFCA) hosted its first annual Gate Operator Training School at the Tapco facility in Brown Deer, Wisconsin on Sept. 13-15. The School included a presentation of "Everything You Need to Know about Loops" was presented by Brian Dick- son of BD Loops. The seminar covered everything from loop detectors to how to properly diagnose a faulty loop system. Other topics included loop size and placement, loop phasing, loops in parallel and series, how to make more money installing loops, and time sav- ing tricks and techniques. "BD Loops is proud to be a part of NAFCA's first Gate Operator Training School, and we share NAFCA's goal of making high quality, affordable ed- ucation accessible to the industry," stated BD Loops general manager Brian Dickson. "The Gate Operator School is just one of the great educa- tional opportunities offered through NAFCA." Visit www.4nafca.com to learn more about the North American Fence Contractors Association and visit www.bdloops.com to view their sched- ule of upcoming table top shows and educational seminars. To request a free seminar be held at your distributor, contact BD Loops at 714-890-1604. Attendees at the Gate Operator Training School learn all about loop systems from Brian Dickson.
