since 1899 ~ ecelia Court 373 ~ St. C ST. CECELIA COURT 373 OF BARNESVILLE, MN CELEBRATES 114 YEARS of Barnesville, MN was organized as a court of W.C.O.F. June 11, 1899. Twenty-eight women were approved to start the court. In October of 1899 a motion was made to have the charter framed. The cost was $1.75; this frame still holds the charter today! In the early court meetings everyone was referred to as Sister and they had passwords in order to come in. It was not uncommon for a court to make donations to various organizations. In the early 1920's $2.00 or $3.00 was considered a great donation. One reading in the 1907 meeting was a motion to donate $2.00 to St. John's Institute. And in the By-Laws: Article 7, "any Sister appointed to a committee and without reasonable [absence] from a meeting – is subject to a fine of 25 cents." 18 COURT 373 In the early court meetings everyone was referred to as Sister and they had pass words in order to come in ... From 1899 to 1908 all officers remained in office only one year. Starting in 1908 Katherine Kiefer was recording secretary and was for many years. Since that date throughout our history officers have been in office for many years. We are proud to say we have one member, Helen Glawe, who no longer lives in Barnesville, MN but will still donate to our Hearts & Hands benefits. Turning 100 on her last birthday, Helen is the oldest member in our court. She was an active officer and member. Our court has been honored to have three Fraternalist of the Year winners: Marlys Bernier, Mary Whitten, and Helen Glawe. National Catholic Forester — 2012 Annual Report
