30 • SEPTEMBER 2013 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Increasing your company's profits continued from previous page Once a labor standard has been established and clearly and reliably documented, it must be posted in a high profile area. The idea here is that if you have a clear and reliable documentation of a particular work effort then there is no reason that everyone else who does that same job or task cannot match that same effort. If they cannot, something must be done to correct that situation. If you don't let your employees know exactly what you expect of Industrial • Commercial • Farm • Ranch Certified Fencing Materials Interstate Highway • Federal or State Land Projects Oil Field Sites and Open Pit Mining • Residential Certified T-Post 1.33 certified ASTM • Field Fence • T-Posts/Wood Posts • Barbed Wire • Tubular Right-of-Way Gates • Portable Fencing Systems • Corner/Anchor Posts • High Tensile CROSSLOCK Game Fence High Tensile Cross Lock Fence Right-of-Way Gate V-Mesh Fence Gives maximum protection. Next month I will finish my discussions of labor and production standards by detailing exactly how to implement, measure and finally enforce your company's labor and production standards. After that I will begin a series of articles on how to best control outside expenses via the establishment of a comprehensive contractor work agreement policy and all of the ins and outs of that agreement. Subsequently, I will be giving two educational seminars on these very topics at next year's FENCETECH 2014 show in Las Vegas, where I will hold workshops on these topics and offer free handouts detailing exactly how to establish both of these procedures in your fence company. These will be very worthwhile educational seminars and I would encourage every fence industry manager or other interested party to attend.
