WORLD FENCE NEWS • SEPTEMBER 2013 • Through the Years with World Fence News September 1988 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the September 1988 edition of World Fence News, 25 years ago this month. • The cover photo for September showed a 22,000 l.f. fence job for a defense contractor in Utah. The high security fence was installed by Mountain States Fence Co. of Salt Lake City. • We ran a Crews in the News article which featured fences from Qual Line Fence Co. • Lou Crain lived only two years after buying out Allied fence of Raleigh, N.C. but his family pulled together to keep the family fence business alive. • WFN contributing editor Herb Borner delved into gate locking devices and accessories for special applications, including childproof latches for swimming pool enclosure gates. • The decision to incorporate a business comes only after serious consideration and professional advice. WFN contributing editor Jim Lucci explained some of the factors that should go into making that critical decision. • Owners of family businesses have concerns much different from managers of large publicly owned corporations. One is: "Does the smaller family business offer hope of a future for its employees?" • Jim Hart came close to a high dollar swamp fence job. Then the swamp disappeared.
