Encon Electronics celebrates 30 years of serving the access control industry Encon Electronics, a leading gate, door and access control distributor, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a trade show at its Hayward, Calif. headquarters on Friday, Sept. 12. All access control professionals are invited to attend. Leading man- ufacturers will be exhibiting at the event and several will provide hands- on training presentations throughout the day. The following are a few Encon highlights throughout the years: August 4, 1984 – The inception of Encon Electronics. Betty Mullin, president and CEO, and Joe Weber, sales director, comprise the entire Encon staff. Today, Encon has 23 em- ployees. Early 1985 – Encon exhibits at its first trade show, the Far Western Show, in San Diego, Califor- nia. This show is now known as the International Door Associa- tion (IDA) trade show. 1985 – Lawrence Bourke is hired to work in the warehouse. Nearly 30 years later he is one of Encon's lead- ing technical sales representatives. 1988 – Encon ends its exclusive selling agreement with Stanley gate operators. Now, Encon represents over 70 leading manufacturers, including 12 gate operator manufacturers, and has paved the way for wholesale dis- tribution in the industry. December 1997 – David Aldave, below, is honored as Encon's first em- ployee of the year. In December 2013 Aldave was given the award again, making it his third time earn- ing this achieve- ment during his long tenure. N o v e m b e r 1998 – Encon's first company softball team is formed (aka, the Smooth Operators). July 1999 – Encon starts a tra- dition – hosting monthly barbecues during the summer for customers and employees. November 1999 – Joe Weber takes on an exclusive outside sales role at Encon. After almost a decade of traveling to customer loca- tions and dealer installation sites, Weber hit the half million mile mark. Today, he continues to vis- it Encon dealers informing them about new products and manufacturers. While he remains the only completely dedicated outside salesperson, additional Encon techs visit dealers as needed.
