WORLD FENCE NEWS • SEPTEMBER 2014 • 39 Carolinas Fence Association plans 2014 By the Sea The Carolinas Fence Association has scheduled its long-standing By the Sea outing for Sept. 25-28, 2014 at the Beach Cove Resort, 4800 South Ocean Blvd., North Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29582. The outing will include a Cap- tain's Choice golf tournament at the River Hills Golf Club, 3670 Cedar Creek Run, Little River, S.C. 29566. It will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014. The cost is $110 per person, and includes two mulligans. Cash prizes will be awarded in the following amounts: 1st place team: $600; 2nd place team: $400; longest drive: $50; and closest to the pin: $50. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each. On Friday evening, a suppliers cocktail party will be held, followed by dinner and chapter meeting. Tony Thornton, president of the American Fence Association, will be the guest speaker. On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Certi- fi ed Fence Professional (CFP) exam will be administered, starting at 8 a.m. The CFA Social will run from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. that evening. AFA launches redesigned web site The American Fence Association has launched its newly redesigned web site. It can be found at www.americanfenceassociation.com. In addition to the new web site design and easy navigation, users will benefi t from its high functionality as AFA continues to update and of- fer new education and certifi cation opportunities. The web site builds on AFA's recent work to move to a self-managed association. AFA's mission is to improve and promote tangible member benefi ts. "AFA is very excited to provide a new web site that supports our mem- bers with member benefi ts and consumers with the information needed to fi nd an AFA member contractor for their needs," said Tony Thornton, executive director of the American Fence Association. For AFA members, their 2014 log in and password will continue to be functional on the newly redesigned web site. Any member who has yet to log into the member portal in 2014 should e-mail Member Services to receive log-in credentials. Stan told us that they are streamlining the commercial side as per buying in volume and monitor- ing inventory all the time. We then asked about the econo- my in the area. We were told that it's picking up. On the residential side, there is more housing going up. On the commercial side, there is building going on in many areas. There are very few foreclosures, and when there are, foreign investors are snapping them up. There are many residential devel- opments going on, and baby boomers are renting big houses. He said he expects a very decent close for 2014 for the industry as a whole. Finally, we asked what the com- pany strategy is for 2014, and Stan told us that he was keeping his employees happy. "If you keep them happy, then they will go the extra mile. Then you can realize that the crews are commit- ted to your company," he said. Stan has been an employee of USA Fence since 1971.
