FOCUS PSB Auction/Pre-owned 14 • December 29, 2014 • Powersports Business www.PowersportsBusiness.com KBB.com data shows most popular views of 2014 models BY LISA PELISSIER CONTRIBUTING WRITER Editor's note: Here's a look at motorcycle and scooter searches on Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com from September-November. 2014 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES Harley-Davidson took seven of the top 10 spots on the list of most researched 2014 model year vehicles for September through November 2014. The list of the most popular 2014 model year vehicles is rounded out by two small dis- placement Kawasakis and the Yamaha FZ-09. The most popular 2014 model is the Har- ley-Davidson FLHXS Street Glide Special, a new model for the 2014 model year. The first three vehicles on the list, all Harley-Davidson touring motorcycles, each garnered almost twice as many KBB.com web hits as the motorcycle in the No. 4 position. The Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide garnered 25 percent fewer KBB.com web hits than it did during the summer months, yet still held the No. 2 spot on the list. HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLES The Harley-Davidson motorcycles receiv- ing the most KBB.com web hits this fall were overwhelmingly touring motorcycles. Two touring models dominated the list, the FLHX Street Glide and the FLHTCU Elec- tra Glide Ultra Classic, continuing a long- standing trend of popularity on KBB.com. The only non-touring motorcycle in the top 10 most researched Harley-David- son motorcycle list was the 2005 Sportster 1200 Custom. Most motorcycles on this list showed a mild decline in KBB.com web hits compared to the same time period last year. STREET MOTORCYCLES UNDER 500CC The most popular small-displacement street motorcycles on KBB.com this fall were sport bikes; they ceded only one spot on the top 10 most researched list to a standard motorcycle. The Kawasaki Ninja 250R and Ninja 300 took seven of the top 10 spots on the list. Interest was up for two of the newest bikes on the list, the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the 2012 Honda CBR250R, which received 1 percent and 5 percent more KBB.com web hits (respectively) compared to a year ago. The No. 1 motorcycle on the list, the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300, received 24 per- cent more KBB.com web hits than the No. 2 motorcycle on the list, testifying to its popu- larity on KBB.com. SPORT BIKES BETWEEN 500CC AND 1000CC Sport bikes showed a consistent decline in KBB.com web hits this fall compared to a year ago, with drops ranging from 7 percent to 22 percent. All four of the most popular Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are represented on the list of the top 10 sport bikes between 500cc and 1000cc, with Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha each claiming three spots, and Kawasaki claim- ing one spot. Popularity for motorcycles in this range is focused on older motorcycles, with the average model year of bikes in the top 10 being 2007. No bike deviated from that average by more than two years in either direction. STANDARD & CRUISER MOTORCY- CLES BETWEEN 500CC AND 1000CC Honda dominated the top 10 list for stan- dard and cruiser motorcycles between 500cc and 1000cc, taking seven of the top 10 spots with its Shadow 750 series. All of the motorcycles on this list show a decline in KBB.com web hits compared to one year ago, with the newest bike on the list, the 2009 Yamaha FZ6R, showing the smallest drop at 2 percent. MOTORCYCLES OVER 1000CC (EXCLUDING HARLEY-DAVIDSON) With the exception of Harley-Davidsons, the most researched motorcycles over 1000cc on KBB.com are sport motorcycles. Eight of the top 10 spots on the list of the most researched motorcycles over 1000cc were occupied by 1000cc Japanese sport bikes. The other two spots in the top 10 were taken by the Honda VTX1300C. The 2006 Honda VTX1300C was the only model on the list of the most researched motorcycles over 1000cc to show an increase Change from Jun-Aug, 2014 KBB Suggested Retail Value KBB Trade-In Value 1 2014 Harley-Davidson FLHXS Street Glide Special * $17,100 $21,935 2 2014 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide down 25% $15,950 $19,695 3 2014 Harley-Davidson FLHTK Electra Glide Ultra Ltd * $19,950 $25,020 4 2014 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 * $5,700 $7,815 5 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 300 up 7% $2,720 $3,970 6 2014 Harley-Davidson FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra Classic * $17,100 $21,935 7 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 300 SE down 2% $2,925 $4,260 8 2014 Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King * $12,800 $16,990 9 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 up 6% $4,275 $6,205 10 2014 Harley-Davidson FXDB Street Bob down 30% $9,480 $12,870 Year Make Model 2014 MODEL YEAR MOTORCYCLES TOP 10 MOST RESEARCHED MOTORCYCLE/POWERSPORT VEHICLES ON KBB.COM: SEPT TO NOV 2014 Change from 1 year ago KBB Suggested Retail Value KBB Trade-In Value 1 2012 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide down 1% $14,025 $18,445 2 2007 Harley-Davidson FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra Classic down 7% $10,225 $13,845 3 2013 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide down 3% $15,000 $18,555 4 2008 Harley-Davidson FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra Classic down 13% $10,800 $14,565 5 2007 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide down 3% $10,425 $14,085 6 2009 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide down 6% $11,650 $15,615 7 2011 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide down 2% $13,375 $17,665 8 2009 Harley-Davidson FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra Classic down 17% $11,450 $15,385 9 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom down 9% $3,635 $5,000 10 2006 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide down 5% $9,380 $12,750 Year Make Model HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLES Change from 1 year ago KBB Suggested Retail Value KBB Trade-In Value 1 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 up 1% $2,455 $3,595 2 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250R down 20% $1,690 $2,510 3 2012 Honda CBR250R up 5% $1,945 $2,875 4 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 250R down 7% $2,290 $3,365 5 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R down 25% $1,525 $2,280 6 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250R down 11% $1,380 $2,075 7 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 250R down 20% $1,865 $2,755 8 2011 Honda CBR250R down 6% $1,910 $2,820 9 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250R down 16% $2,065 $3,040 10 2009 Honda Rebel 250 down 2% $1,510 $2,255 Year Make Model STREET MOTORCYCLES UNDER 500CC Change from 1 year ago KBB Suggested Retail Value KBB Trade-In Value 1 2007 Suzuki GSX-R600 down 18% $3,335 $4,850 2 2007 Yamaha YZF-R6 down 18% $3,405 $4,950 3 2006 Suzuki GSX-R600 down 19% $3,015 $4,390 4 2007 Honda CBR600RR down 11% $3,725 $5,410 5 2006 Honda CBR600RR down 13% $3,380 $4,915 6 2008 Honda CBR600RR down 22% $4,115 $5,975 7 2006 Yamaha YZF-R6 down 19% $3,085 $4,490 8 2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R down 7% $3,200 $4,655 9 2005 Suzuki GSX-R600 down 8% $2,720 $3,970 10 2009 Yamaha YZF-R6 down 11% $4,205 $6,105 Year Make Model SPORT BIKES 500CC TO 1000CC Change from 1 year ago KBB Suggested Retail Value KBB Trade-In Value 1 2003 Honda Shadow 750 Spirit down 19% $1,835 $2,720 2 2007 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic down 10% $2,335 $3,430 3 2003 Honda Shadow 750 ACE Deluxe down 16% $2,020 $2,975 4 2009 Yamaha FZ6R down 2% $2,855 $4,160 5 2006 Honda Shadow 750 Aero down 16% $2,375 $3,480 6 2007 Honda Shadow 750 Spirit down 7% $2,435 $3,570 7 2005 Honda Shadow 750 Aero down 14% $2,210 $3,250 8 2007 Honda Shadow 750 Aero down 20% $2,555 $3,740 9 2006 Suzuki C50 down 5% $2,310 $3,390 10 2007 Honda Shadow 750 Spirit C2 down 16% $2,555 $3,740 Year Make Model STANDARD & CRUISER MOTORCYCLES 500CC TO 1000CC Change from 1 year ago KBB Suggested Retail Value KBB Trade-In Value 1 2006 Honda CBR1000RR down 11% $3,930 $5,710 2 2008 Honda CBR1000RR down 11% $4,690 $6,800 3 2006 Honda VTX1300C up 4% $3,495 $5,080 4 2007 Yamaha YZF-R1 down 7% $4,550 $6,600 5 2007 Honda CBR1000RR down 8% $4,320 $6,270 6 2006 Suzuki GSX-R1000 down 18% $4,230 $6,140 7 2005 Yamaha YZF-R1 down 10% $3,745 $5,445 8 2007 Suzuki GSX-R1000 down 7% $4,645 $6,730 9 2004 Yamaha YZF-R1 down 9% $3,380 $4,915 10 2004 Honda VTX1300C down 8% $2,810 $4,095 Year Make Model MOTORCYCLES 1000CC AND LARGER (EXCLUDING HARLEY-DAVIDSON) Street Glide Special already tops on searches Source: Kelley Blue Book See KBB, Page 19 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide 2015 Kawasaki Ninja 300 2006 Honda CBR1000RR * These models were on KBB.com without used pricing during June-August 2014.
