Spaceport America is already open and operational. In ceremonies on Oct. 17, 2011, a special combined terminal and hangar facility at Spaceport America was dedicated as the "Virgin Galactic Gateway to Space." Virgin Galactic will establish its headquarters and operate its space flights from Spaceport America, which is owned by the New Mexico Space- port Authority (NMSA), a state agency. The Spaceport lies low within the desert-like landscape of the site in New Mexico.
