MOTORCYCLE Newer pre-owned bikes show strength 34 • November 9, 2015 • Powersports Business www.PowersportsBusiness.com KBB.com data shows Q3 interest in newer cruisers BY LISA PELISSIER CONTRIBUTING WRITER Here's a look at how pre-owned ATV and UTV searches fared in third quarter of 2015. CRUISER & TOURING MOTORCYCLES Harley-Davidson again populated the entire top 10 most researched cruiser and tour- ing motorcycles list, with nine touring bikes and one standard bike. Stronger interest in newer bikes is apparent on this top 10 list, with the four newest motor- cycles all showing gains in KBB.com web hits. The older bikes saw a decline. SPORT MOTORCYCLES The top 10 most researched sport motorcycles list remains con- sistent with past trends in many ways. The list is dominated by 600cc motorcycles from Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha, and is punctuated by a couple Kawasaki 250cc models. Only one motorcycle on this top 10 list saw an increase in KBB.com web hits for Q3 2015 over Q3 2014: the 2009 Yamaha YZF-R6. The 2007 Suzuki GSX-R600 continued its reign at the top of this list with a solid lead over the No. 2 motorcycle on the list, receiving 17 percent more KBB.com web hits than the 2006 model. OFF-ROAD MOTORCYCLES As in Q2 2015, the top 10 most researched off-road motorcycles list was again entirely populated by moto- cross bikes. Seven of the bikes on this list displace 250cc, while the other three bikes displace 450cc. All of the 450cc models are Hondas. ON/OFF-ROAD MOTORCYCLES The top 10 on/off-road motorcycles list saw a surprising number of newer bikes, with five of the top 10 being from model-year 2011 and newer. For the most part, the newer bikes on this list were trending toward gains in KBB.com web hits, whereas the older motor- cycles saw declines. SCOOTERS The top 10 most researched scooters list was eclectic, as usual, representing four dif- ferent manufacturers in approximately equal measure. Scooters in the top 10 list show an average 11 percent drop from Q2 2015. The only model in the top 10 most researched scooters list to show an increase in KBB.com web hits was the 2009 Vespa LX 150. SPORT ATVS OVER 400CC The 2005 Honda TRX450R continued to hold the No. 1 spot on the top 10 most researched sport ATVs over 400cc list. It received 43 percent more KBB.com web hits than the No. 2 ATV on the list. However, it was Yamaha who dominated this list, holding seven positions. The top 10 most researched sport ATVs over 400cc saw an average drop of 2 percent in KBB.com web hits year-over-year compared to Q3 2014. Models displacing 450cc generated the most interest on KBB.com, with models of that configuration occupying seven spots on the top 10 list. UTILITY ATVS OVER 400CC Polaris held the most spots on the top 10 utility ATVs over 400cc list, with five ATVs on the list. This was fewer than the seven positions Polaris occupied in Q2 2015.
