In high school, I had a small, really close group of friends that I hung out with. We were all in Explorer Search and Rescue together and later sev- eral of us joined the National Guard. Otherwise, I had my nose buried in a sci-fi novel or I was off wandering in the woods. In a way motorcycling is a great fi t for my personality. When I'm rid- ing I can get completely out of my head and really be in the world. The motorcycling community provides a never-ending opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and meet new peo- ple. I've met some really great people riding with both Seattle and Eastside chapters of the Harley Owners Group. They're like family to me now. Is there anyone you'd like to make mention of; someone who was signifi cant in your life, a mentor? Like I mentioned on the phone, I'd like to highlight my father's infl uence on my life. It's safe to say that most of the good qualities I have were learned watching him demonstrate a strong work ethic, doing a job right, taking care of others fi rst and just an overall generosity of spirit. Of course I also got red hair, a true ginger's complex- ion (I burn at the drop of a hat) and bad eyesight from him too. So maybe it's a wash. Seriously, though, if I turn out to be half as good a man as my father I'll have done just fi ne. My folks moved back to Idaho around 1990 and live in Eagle now which is how I fi gured out the "Where am I?" answer. And my sister, Maria, and two nephews, William and Ethan, live in nearby Star, Idaho. I don't get over to see them nearly as much as I should. So with all the traveling in and out of the country, how is it you ended up back in North Bend? When I got off the road com- pletely back in 2010, I went to work at SEATAC airport for the FAA main- taining instrument landing systems. I bought a home back in North Bend, Washington, near Rattlesnake Lake. I wanted to be near my oldest friends and will always consider this area my home. There's a lot more people here now but it still has a small-town feel.
