Within minutes of arriving I was ushered to my camp spot next to Christy and Dan Howe. After intro- ductions they preceded to tell me they were taking care of me, and informed me when breakfast, lunch and dinner would be served. Although my VIP pass afforded me meals with the Fryed family as well, I couldn't resist this gracious offer from my new friends. Wow, already adopted! Now, this weekend isn't all about the Fryed Brothers as they always invite some tremendous talent starting with the Backyard Blues Band, the Kent Stephenson Band, and Rogue, followed by folk singer/songwriter Steve "Beatnik" Werner whose songs and storytelling are always a crowd favorite. And last but not least—The Chubbs Bros Band featuring Les "Big Daddy" Taylor on vocals, harmonica and guitar, John "Waterbed" Irwin on guitar and vocals, George Manoukian on drums and Michael Reilly on guitar and vocals. All of the musicians who play here are well-seasoned veterans and have graced the stage with a long list of musical greats just like the Fryed Brothers. Taking a short pause from the music on Saturday, there were your typical biker games and raffl es punc- tuated by a wedding proposal by Barbara's son Patrick Grech to his girl- friend Lindsay Stanley. Two more highlights of the week- end were Barb's daughter Kelli Grech's performance of a soul wrenching ren- dition of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and Harry's daughter Jady Fryed singing with the Chubbs Bros during what they called "Sunday morning church." Sunday night after many revel- ers had either left or gone to bed, an impromptu concert took place around the campfi re in the Fryed family com- pound hosted by Beatnik and treated those in attendance to a new tune entitled "The Vagina Song." Yup, it was awesome. This party isn't just about riding motorcycles or the biker lifestyle; it's about how music binds us all together as family. Whether this was your fi rst time like me or you've been coming for years, we all came for the same reason—to party with the Fryed Brothers and listen to all these great musicians as one big family. 4 Fryed Continued from page 8
