10 • SEPTEMBER 2012 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Miller Edge Link provides wireless monitored signal transmission between edge sensor and operator Miller Edge reported that its MEL (Monitored Edge Link) transmitter/re- ceiver which eliminates the need to hard wire a monitored edge sensor to the door operator, has successfully completed testing to become a UL325 recognized component. MEL meets the current require- ments of UL325 by continuously checking for the presence and connec- tion of a monitored external sensing edge, the company said. When attached to currently UL325 listed commercial door opera- tors, a loss of signal transmission or fault in the system will cause the op- erator to revert to constant pressure to close. This new product allows any mon- itored edge sensor to work with any operator brand with no additional module required. MEL may also be used for appli- cations where the edge sensor func- tions as a non-monitored ancillary device, according to the manufacturer. MEL is "backward compatible" and will function with gate operators and UL325 commercial door operators manufactured prior to August 29, 2010. When used with these operators the response will vary dependent upon operator controls and may or may not The Monitored Edge Link from Miller Edge has successfully completed test- ing to become a UL325 recognized component. LED indicators will alert users in the event of loss of power or a fault in the system. The MEL edge transmitter is pow- ered by two AA lithium batteries. The batteries have an average life ex- pectancy of 12 months. Miller Edge provides safety ac- cessories to the door industry includ- ing contact and non-contact sensing edges, light curtains and stationary photo optic beams along with related accessories.
