New construction starts in June slipped 1% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $446.1 billion, accord- ing to McGraw-Hill Construction, a division of The McGraw-Hill Compa- nies. 42 • SEPTEMBER 2012 • WORLD FENCE NEWS The Dodge Report New construction starts slip slightly in June After the elevated activity that was reported during March and April, which reflected the lift coming from two nuclear power projects, total con- struction in May and June returned to a level just slightly above the average monthly pace reported during the pre- vious year. June featured a moderate loss of momentum for nonresidential build- ing, after this sector's improved per- formance in May. Summer nuclear power facil- ity near Jenkinsville, S.C. Aside from the lift coming from this year's nuclear E/Z SLIDE™ TRACK SYSTEM GATE KIT power projects, total construction ac- tivity during the first half of 2012 has basically shown a hesitant up-and- down pattern. "On the plus side, gains are being reported for several commercial build- ing categories, and the strengthening trend for multifamily housing is now being joined by moderate growth for single family housing," said Murray. "On the negative side, such institu- tional project types as educational buildings and healthcare facilities con- tinue to weaken, along with further de- clines for several public works continued on page 44 Logical Decisions, Inc. announces successful test of its "banana boat" crash barrier gate arm BATON ROUGE, La. — Logical Decisions, Inc.
