From the National Secretary Minutes of the quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors of National Catholic Society of Foresters. The December quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Catholic Society of Foresters was called to order by National President Margaret Babinat on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the board room of the Home Office. All members of the Board were present. The meeting opened with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States. National President Margaret Babinat reviewed the proposed agenda. Motion by National Treasurer Jon Mocol and seconded by National Director Loretta Nelson that the Board of Directors accept the amended agenda for the December 2011 board meeting. Motion passed 11 Yes – 0 No. Motion by National Vice President Margaret Schmitt and seconded by National Director Carol Clauson that the Board of Directors accept the consent calendar items "A" for the December 2011 board meeting. EXECUTIVE OFFICERS' REPORTS WERE GIVEN: National Treasurer Jon Mocol's report covered: • Cash position at JP Morgan Chase Bank • Investment position at Harris Investment Trust • Internal operations • Fourth quarter financial highlights National Secretary's Report: National Secretary Patricia DeNys' report covered the following items for the months of September, October and November for 2011: • Number of insurance and annuity certificates issued • Death claims paid on life certificates • Death claims paid on annuity certificates • Cash surrenders on life certificates • Cash surrenders on annuity certificates • Lapsed life certificates • Cancelled certificates • Declined certificates National Secretary Patricia DeNys requested that the Board of Directors complete and sign Conflict of Interest forms. All were completed and signed. National President Margaret Babinat's report covered: • Weekly meetings on compliance issues. Developing suitable forms for annuity applications. • Met with electricity vendors and a two year contract with Lower Electric was signed. The power will come from Nordic Energy Service. • Meetings were held with printers and bids reviewed for our magazine. • National Vice President Margaret Schmitt, National Treasurer Jon Mocol and National President Margaret Babinat attended an investment conference sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. • Visited with Jeff Shaw LIC, a life insurance consultant. • Speaking with our defined benefit actuary Joe Nichols to make sure everything is flowing smoothly with the past pension actuary. • Attended two webinars about sales and insurance. • The Executive Team met with Jeff Armstrong from Baptist Life, about a possible merger. • Met with Paul Sippel who works with 401k's. We use Correll now. • Attended diocesan meetings in Green Bay, WI, Dubuque, IA and Milwaukee, WI. • Attended a court meeting in Aurora, IL. • Budget meetings were held to set the budget for 2012. • A Halloween pot luck was held on Monday, October 31 for the staff. We had lunch, played some games and heard a ghost story. • Every employee received a turkey on November 15th for Thanksgiving.
