GOLF'S NEW DIRECTION Golf Is Being Redfined At GREENBRYRE What will make Saskatoon's Greenbryre unique is a move to a 12-hole layout that will feature an outward six and an inward six. The extra land will now become a high-end real estate development. The idea of making this golf and homes is actually not a new one. Gary Gaudet floated the idea of making it a 9-holer after purchasing the golf course in 2007 from Peter Semko and the Semko family who started the course in 1979. In 2012, Gaudet sold the golf course and some additional land south of Greenbryre, to D&S Homes. The additional land made the 12-hole idea that Jack Nicklaus has been advocating a viable option. GM / Head Golf Professional - Brad Vinnick is very excited about this new direction, "As I have been in the golf Industry for over 20 years as a CPGA golf professional I am finding that more and more people are having less and less time to get out and play a round. The change in the golf course setup will allow individuals or groups to play recreational golf in one third of the time if playing six holes. There are a number of golf courses that do have a premium rate of 18 holes on weekends and on Fridays which will not allow 9 hole play until after 2pm. This new development will cater to those golfers who want to play 6 holes or 12 holes during this time period. For those who are traditional to the 18 holes of play, we will still be able to provide this level of play by playing one of the 6 hole segments twice to complete your 18 holes." The golf course will feature 5 par 3's, 6 par 4's and one par 5 hole over 520 yards in length. The ponds and water basins will come into play on 8 of the 12 holes. One of those ponds will provide an aquatic practise facility for the patrons for hitting range balls. As well more than 120 trees have been moved and replanted from the old layout to provide shelter and maturity for the new 12 holes. The golf course architect responsible for all this is Mr. Garth Keays from Golf Shape, a Saskatchewan Golf Course Designer who just completed the very well regarded Legends Golf Course in Warman, Saskatchewan. While the course will come online in 2013, they have already got a new restaurant on the site. Vinnick is very enthusiastic about the new venue, "We are now operating a newly renovated clubhouse for evening dining Wednesday to Saturday in a restaurant called "12 Grill" which is also open daily for lunch. Come in for quick lunch, a nice enjoyable dinner, or some fantastic cocktails in the lounge for an evening out with family and friends. You will be thoroughly impressed with the great culinary creations of all their chefs. To make the dining experience even more memorable, we are offering exclusive limousine service for the clientele. Twelve Grill is definitely Saskatoon's newest premier restaurant. For Reservations and Rates, contact them at 373-7600 ext 3. Also part of the new Greenbryre will be the opportunity to call it home. The new layout will be surrounded by 143 lots which are 1/2 to 3/4 acres in size in what will be called "Greenbryre Estates". Private power carts for the home owners will be allowed to access Greenbryre Golf and Country. "We subdivided the land into one-half- acre to three-quarter-acre lots, and are building residential walkout homes," Troy Slater, director of operations, says of the development, which is named Greenbryre Estates. "We are targeting completion in 2013." "Quality and lifestyles are what people expect at Greenbryre Estates, and that's what theya re going to get," continues Troy. "We position ourselves in the market as an established land developer and builder that can give high-end customers what they need." This is clearly a top-tier,cutting edge development and Vinnick sums up where they see Greenbryre pretty well, "This development is one of a kind in Western Canada which includes housing in this development. It will definitely be a new concept which will be noticed throughout the golf community in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan. As for the larger scope, that will be up to the rest of Canada and Golf to decide."
