"We believe in providing individualized customer service. We have built our business on understanding and responding to our customer's needs. Upon receiving the gift, Chris Ziemba, local development director for the Salvation Army, detailed sev- eral programs that will benefit from the contribution: • Emergency shelter for families – Includes overnight shelter, meals, shower/laundry facilities, case man- agement, and transportation to/from school for school-aged children. • Short-term family shelter, food and case management services. Each family is provided, at minimum, pri- vate quarters, three meals a day, shower and laundry facilities, and en- richment activities. • Housing programs for single homeless women, rapid rehousing and housing subsidies for families transi- tioning from homelessness to housing. • Food and personal essentials pantry for about 125 families per week. Ziemba noted there are volunteer opportunities in all of the above areas, but particularly at Christmas time when the need for bell ringers is high. Only half of the kettle sites are staffed by volunteers. Kettle receipts were down about $200,000 this season because of this and the short period of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. "Having a bell ringer greeting by- passers makes a big difference in do- nations collected at kettle sites," stated Ziemba. "We hope people can plan ahead to take a shift next year and par- ticipate in this rewarding experience." The Wisconsin / Northern Illinois Chapter of the American Fence Asso- ciation consists of approximately 20 fence contractors or suppliers. Chris Ziemba, development director for the Salvation Army of Dane County, Wis., accepts a $1,000 check from Wis- consin/Northern Illinois AFA secretary Harriet Statz on behalf of the chapter. "Chapter members made the deci- sion to support the Salvation Army, as in previous years, because they recog- nize that the organization plays a cru- cial role in dealing with the financial and emotional strains felt by fellow Wisconsinites, and that the Salvation Army does a great job with little waste," said chapter secretary Harriet Statz.
