Colorful folklore dance performances by Ballet Nuestro Mexico, Ballet Folklorico Poctly Yancuic, Compania Estatal de Danza Clasica y Neoclasica de Jalisco and Ballet Regional Folklórico de San Cristobal de la Barranca will thrill audiences. Crowds will gather for the fun and excitement of Mexican Fiesta’s contests. Friday offers a Salsarengue contest; Saturday, dance and El Grito contests, and Sunday, OMEGA jalapeno-eating and Traditional costume contests. A special Hotwheelz car and motorcycle show on Saturday. The show will start at noon on the lake- front Mexican Fiesta grounds. A soccer tournament (at Urban Park) will be held Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Midway rides as well as the Children’s Play Area and Children’s Stage add to the fun. On Sunday, the first ever Fiesta Walk! promotes dia- betes and obesity awareness through a fun family event that will take registrants on a one mile walk on the island of Summerfest grounds. With paid regis- tration, participants will receive lots of goodies, including a t-shirt and admission to Mexican Fiesta from noon-3 p.m. (while wearing the event t-shirt). With registration beginning at 7:30 a.m., welcome at 8:45 a.m. and walk kick-off at 9 a.m., the walk also includes presentation on staying active and healthy. Also Sunday, a 10:30 a.m. lakefront procession and Mass will be held in the Marcus Amphitheater with entry at the South Gate. (Gates close at 11:30 a.m. for the mass). The mass includes Principal Celebrant The Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Those attending the mass will be admitted to Mexican Fiesta for $5. On display all weekend will be a special sanctuary of Our Lady of Zapopan in the Cultural Pavilion. In addition to having a great time, those attending Mexican Fiesta are helping to support the scholar- ship program, Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation (WHSF). To date, WHSF has provided more than $800,000 in college scholarships. Hours are noon to midnight. Admission to Mexican Fiesta is $13 at the gate, $1 for children 3- to 10-years- old, and under 3 are free with adult. The Mexican Fiesta Stimulus Package, at $50, saves visitors more than 25%.
