Dive into excitement at Maritime Museum WISCONSIN MARITIMEMuseum in Manitowoc, about 90 minutes north of Milwaukee, is the largest maritime museum on the Great Lakes. An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, the muse- um introduces visitors to all facets of Great Lakes maritime life and provides a unique insight into the “secret service” through tours of the fully restored World War II submarine, the U.S.S. Cobia. Life aboard USS Cobia during World War II was not easy. On Aug. 19-21, crew members of the Cobia gath- er for their annual reunion and will answer questions. Special activities, including a Cobia engine start, are planned for Saturday. Submarine sleepovers Aug. 7 and Aug. 12 are $39 per person and include guided tour of the sub, fun sub exercises and games, the sub sleepover and museum tour. The museum is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. every day through Labor Day and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. every day from Labor Day to Memorial Day. The museum is at 75 Maritime Dr. on Lake Michigan in Manitowoc, reached via I-43 north.
