Maritime Heritage Festival brings tall ships to harbor PORTWASHINGTON Maritime Heritage Festival, held Aug. 19-21 on the city’s lakefront, features sailing trips on three incredible tall ships – Friends GoodWill, Niagara and Pride of Baltimore II. The festival also offers deck and dock tours of these romantic ships. Fireworks on Saturday night add to the thrills. Festival goers will enjoy land-based entertain- ment on two stages including maritime singers and storytellers, traditional Irish and folk music, bluegrass, jazz, country and rock ‘n roll. Performers include Familiar Looking Strangers from Liverpool, England, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Erica Hoyt from Nashville at 7:45 p.m. Saturday and The Whiskey Belles at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Achildren’s area offers fun and educational pre- sentations and activities that kids will love, while adults will enjoy the artisan market with unique art, jewelry and other wares. Sure to be a hit with families is Saturday’s Cardboard Boat Regatta. Reflections on PortWashington will be presented by the PortWashington Historical Society. Speakers will discuss local maritime history and display artifacts. Of course, a wide variety of food vendors are on site to tempt the whole family’s taste buds. Entry to the festival is free and tickets for deck and dock tours can be purchased in advance for $6. Sailing trips can also be pre-booked. Festival hours are noon-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
