Models years 2007-09 and 2003-06 each got 16 percent of the vote. Of those respondents who plan to buy a used snowmobile, 39 percent plan to do so from a snowmobile dealership; 61 percent of them will buy their used sled from a private party. When asked, as a household, how much money did you spend on equipment, acces- sories and/or apparel for snowmobiling in the past 12 months, 32 percent replied that they had spent at least $1,000. When it comes to snowmobile jackets, Arctic Cat takes the cat as the primary snow- mobile jacket of respondents. More than 17 percent use an Arctic Cat jacket as their primary snowmobile jacket, ahead of Ski-Doo (16.5 per- cent), Klim (15.8) and Polaris (14.2). Remaining on the jacket topic, 45 per- cent of survey takers said they bought their most recent snowmobile jacket from a snow- mobile dealership. More than 20 percent bought it a show or event (from a dealership or other), with 15 percent making their jacket purchase from an online or mail-order snow- mobile parts retailer. For those who did not buy their jacket at a dealership, price was listed as the reason for not buying by 61 percent of the respondents. "They didn't have the product I wanted in stock" was listed as the reason by 26 percent, and "Not as convenient" was listed as the reason by 16 percent of respondents as the reason why they did not purchase their jacket at a dealership. Survey respondents will be in heavy buying mode, with 33 percent of respondents in the market for gloves. Helmets, boots and underlayers are also near the top of the shop- ping list. Speaking of helmets, 40 percent of respon- dents said they use a modular helmet when riding, compared to the 33 percent who wear a full-face and the 27 percent who wear a moto- cross-style helmet with goggles. Dealership service departments did not receive much love from the survey partici- pants. Only 22 percent of them turn to a deal- ership for maintenance and repair on their snowmobiles.
