46 • DECEMBER 2014 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Golf tourney caps Encon Electronics 30th anniversary weekend celebration On Saturday, Sept. 13, Encon Electronics held its 14th annual golf tournament at the Deer Ridge Golf Club in Brentwood, Calif. The day began with a group put- ting contest, continued with a best ball tournament and ended with an emo- tional awards ceremony. This year Encon's tournament re- volved around their 30th anniversary and every hole chronicled an import- ant milestone of the company through the years. Encon VP of sales and operations Jeff Harris commented, "We sched- uled the tournament to coincide with our anniversary trade show and, as a result, we had a huge turnout. Having so many manufacturers and customers present at both events made our cel- ebration weekend even more special. "We host these events as a way to say thank you, and we could not successfully pull it off without the in- credible support of our dealers and the generous donations of our vendors," close second with a score of 58 (13 un- der par). The raffle ceremony featured gifts donated by the tournament spon- sors, including tablets, golf clubs, gift cards, electronics, and much more. Marketing manager Vicki Jones commented, "The highlight of the cer- emony was when president and CEO Betty Mullin went to the microphone to close out the event, and attendees responded with a roaring round of applause and an impromptu standing ovation. It was remarkable to see this group of vendors and customers take this opportunity to recognize Betty for her support and respected presence in this industry all these years. It was a perfect way to end the anniversary event weekend." All Encon dealers are eligible to participate in the tournament. Attendees had a blast participat- ing in all the contest holes and earning prize raffle tickets along the way. They battled for the fastest time at the speed hole par 3 and tested their accuracy on the closest to the line hole and the closest to the pin holes. For the first time, attendees also had an opportunity to win $10,000 by scoring a hole-in-one on the 130 yard par 3. This hole was sponsored by Byan Systems and generated a lot of buzz. Unfortunately, no one walked away with the big prize. There was also a tribute hole to Encon sales tech Shane Kilby, who recently passed away in a tragic riv- er rafting accident. Shane was a huge soccer fan, so in his honor, a soccer net and ball were set up and partici- pants had the opportunity to earn ex- tra tickets by scoring a goal. Following golf play, attendees en- joyed a gourmet lunch sponsored by DoorKing and Miller Edge. LiftMaster generously sponsored all the beverages for the day including complimentary drinks and snacks on the golf course. The event ended with an awards ceremony where Automatic Door Sys- tems was recognized for first place honors with a 57 (14 under par), while Robbins Quality Garage Doors was a At the conclusion of the awards cere- mony, Encon president and CEO Bet- ty Mullin received a standing ovation for her support and presence in the access control industry for over three decades.
