I have also found that if appointments are set on the quarter and three-quarter hour, customers are more likely to take the time seri- ously and arrive on time. 'PREPAID MAINTENANCE' IS SO 1990s If you're selling a maintenance program, don't call it "Prepaid Maintenance." This phrase was first used in the late 1980s and early '90s. At that time, the word "prepaid" did not have the negative connotations that it does now. If you look at the times when prepaid is used, such as prepaid phones, prepaid legal, or prepaid credit cards, the people they are adver- tising to are the people who either can't afford to pay for the services or cannot be trusted to pay for the services after they have been ren- dered. I have even heard customers say, "No, I don't need to prepay. I can afford to pay when I need the services done." The word prepaid simply portrays the wrong image. By calling your maintenance program Pri- ority Maintenance, VIP Maintenance, or Pit Pass, you'll convey an image that is more desir- able, and customers will want what you offer, if you present it in a more positive light.
