This year, the AMSOIL World Championship Derby Track is adding a new twist — ATVs and UTVs. "We've got everything in place, and thought 'Why not look for a way to use the facility,'" said Russ Davis, vice president of sales and marketing for the Derby Track. "ATVs and UTVs are a hot commodity right now in the recreational industry. We just thought it was a great opportunity to bring them to Eagle River to have a world championship event." This year's event will take place Aug. 28-30. Davis says that there will be stock and modified racing all three days for all classes. A large num- ber of UTV/ATV manufacturers and aftermarket suppliers from all over North America will be present to exhibit their newest products as well. Past history with notable snowmobile manufacturers and aftermarket groups gave the Derby Track a leg up on planning, says Davis. The space is already set up to entertain the masses, with a half-mile oval track, "mud bowl," camping grounds and decked-out cor- porate suites for spectators. "The response from manufacturers and aftermarket people has just been enormous. From a spectator's standpoint, it's going to be huge! The manufacturers will have exhibits, and there's even going to be a demo area," Davis said. Davis pointed out that the ATV/UTV World Championship will be different than other events that target the off-road segment. "The fact that we already have a half-mile oval track in place; there's never been a UTV oval race circuit. We're going to conduct the first world championship oval race." The AMSOIL Derby Track is excited to host such a large gathering this summer to celebrate the ATV/UTV industry. "Everything's in place to have an event. We've got room for 20,000 to 30,000 people. It's going to be a huge event, the main event," Davis said.
