30 nSeptember 2016n www.thunderpress.net THUNDER PRESS motorcycle parts, to a new motorcy- cle or insurance for it. The Wounded Warriors were raffl ing off a 1965 Shelby Cobra and a 2016 Shelby Mustang GT-350 both at $10 a ticket with deals for multiple purchases. The winner of the Cobra will be chosen New Year's Day 2017 and the Mustang winner will be announced on July 9 next year, both in Carmel, California. As always, the Methodist Church at the corner of Fifth and Monterey streets put on their all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at $10 for adults and $5 for kids on Saturday and Sunday mornings and they were well attended. If you didn't know what bike you wanted to buy there were Harley- Davidson demo rides in the event area and Indian Demo Rides at Power Sports. Since Power Sports also sells Victorys, you could test drive one of them too. Hollister's lodging is somewhat limited and was booked up months in advance, but hotels in nearby Gilroy, Salinas and Monterey were only too glad to help out. There was also camping available at Bolado Park about 10 miles south of town. The warm summer nights and excellent campgrounds made for an enjoyable experience. There were bands for Friday and Saturday nights and movies were scheduled after the bands were done: Wild Hogs on Friday and The Wild Ones on Saturday. The campers were very happy to be away from the noise in town. Although the Hollister Rally is always free, much like Sturgis or Daytona Beach, the offi cial event package deal was $60. This included an offi cial T-shirt, ride pin, offi cial VIP badge and hog tag, entrance to the VIP parties at the Vault Friday and Saturday nights, poker run and poker walk sheets, entrance to the slow bike races, a three-day VIP parking pass which allowed special parking near the Vault and a handy event pocket guide. Although a lot of people bought the VIP packages, there were a lot more who just bought the $20 event T-shirt. Chief David Westrick of the Hollister Police Department said that enforcement actions inside the event area were down for the third year in a row with 15 citations written. He said it was a good crowd and a good safe event for law enforcement and the public. I caught up with Mayor Velazquez near the end of the rally and asked him about motorcycle clubs not being allowed to sell club clothing and he said that was true. The city did not want any particular club trying to claim Hollister as their town so no club was allowed to sell. It was also true that clubs were charged more for booth space. It was an effort to keep some control over the clubs. Velazquez declared the rally a success, though, due to larger-than-expected crowds and no major crime incidents. He praised the job done by the new promoters. Maybe the right promoter has been found at long last. 4 Hollister Continued from page 22 vendors including Paparazzi Fashion, some other local food vendors and the well-known biker attorneys Schapiro and Leventhal as well as a few motorcycle clubs including, Soldiers for Jesus, Top Hatters and Hell's Angels with booths selling club merchandise. The annual Top Hatters MC Hollister poker run on Saturday ended at Corbin. Last year, Jason Pullen of Jason Pullen Stunts was on hand at Corbin's event, just hanging out and checking out the scene. This year he and his crew came out in force and provided a whirlwind demonstration of crazy motorcycle stunt riding that wowed the crowd. Jason even included a fan in one of his stunt rides as well as another feathered fan, a white cockatoo. Fans both feathered and otherwise were hav- ing a great time. Jason Pullen has the crazy gene for sure. As always, by his side was his lovely wife, Angela, and his long time friend, Smashley, also performed and they amazed us all with their daredevil stunts. These women know how to ride. Corbin had a full house all three days of the event with all his family, friends and employees laying out the proverbial red carpet for his customers. Once again, thank you Mike and the Corbin Seats family for all that you do every year to make the Hollister Biker Independence rally possible and memorable. 4 Appreciation Continued from page 22 Just inside Corbin seats where the magic begins Wounded Warrior Project was raffl ing off this completely restored 1967 427 Cobra and a brand new 2016 Mustang 350 Shelby The Straight Up Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Stunt Show ran every day, several times a day to help keep folks entertained
