30 nOctober 2016n www.thunderpress.net THUNDER PRESS by Don Kline LOMA LINDA, CALIF., AUG. 8— On its Facebook and Instagram pages, Quaid Harley-Davidson was display- ing pictures of their parts people in a closet with lots of boxes stacked up. They were informing us that they were cleaning out their closets and stock rooms of old parts and having a swap meet. The photos piqued my interest and gave me an excuse to take a ride out to the dealership. The swap meet was scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and took place in the parking lot. Jose Alfaro, Quaid's parts man- ager, along with other staff were handling business. The parts for sale varied in size, condition and type. At fi rst glance there were a lot of chrome pieces, some in boxes, some on tables and some just on the ground. I saw lots of handlebars, some muffl ers, mirrors, cables, windshields, engine covers and even a crank assembly. While I was going through the boxes I saw Pastor Denver of the Roadhouse Biker Church (RBC) in nearby San Bernardino looking at various parts, and I even got him to pose for me with a set of handlebars. RBC is a unique church in they have a burnout spot inside and you can see their tent at various events around the Inland Empire including Quaid's Bike Night. Pastor Denver reminded me that they are having their annual memorial Ray "Eagle" Ramirez run at the dealership this year. Getting back to the swap meet, there was a sign that said make an offer as none of the parts had prices on them and I saw a few people asking prices. Off to the side Cory Jones was set up to sell some of his parts, manuals and other items. He is a member of the Establishment, and he was telling me about their upcom- ing Shoot, Loot and Scoot event. It's a fun event where you bowl, shoot clay pigeons and throw darts for points and the money raised is used to support the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House. I enjoy days like this; you never know who you are going to run into, and you fi nd out what is going on. I fi nd out about upcoming events from people just by going to these local happenings. And my big score from the swap meet? I got two amber turn signal lenses for two bucks. 4 QUAID HARLEY-DAVIDSON SWAP MEET Pulling out the old parts Everything's negotiable Cory Jones had some items to sell at the swap
