We have two fi re trucks and seven brush trucks, so we're pretty self-suffi cient out here and we take care of all that stuff. We like our independence; it's kind of a big deal to us." Amenities of the compound include multiple stages for the several concerts each rally, a free, open- to-the-public area for bike shows and activities, reliable internet and it comes with its own gas station, restaurants, showers and a laundry facility, just to rattle off a few of the niceties that can be found at the Chip. Campers make reservations well in advance and 2015 saw twice as many as the year before, assuring their spot in the place that has become the epit- ome of motorcycle mayhem. A perfect example of said may- hem was the race that was held in the middle of the amphitheater for the fi rst time this year. "We've grown every year since 1991 and we plan to be the last rally standing," Woody told THUNDER PRESS. "We were down this year like everyone else, but we were still 50 percent more than I'd expected. I know it sounds trite, but for us, it really is all about getting to party with our friends. I like my friends and meeting new friends, and it feels sad when it's over. The grouse and the rabbits all come back after the rally, and it's cool to watch them, but I miss my friends when they leave. I like people to come out, to feel welcome, to be welcome. We leave them alone to enjoy themselves and to hang out. We throw a steak on the grill, visit and have a good time. I'm always busy, never have as much time as I'd like to spend with every- one, but we love seeing them all come out for the rally." Woody can be seen hanging out with the crowds at the campground and he always has a big smile and a warm handshake. The Buffalo Chip is a community built by and for bikers and 35 years adds up to a lot of great parties. Congratulations, Woody; here's to the next 35. 4 Buffalo Chip Continued from page 27
