An early morning phone inquiry by a sexy fe- male voice lured Jim's crew to a job they were not soon to forget – repair- ing the work of a do-it-yourselfer at an in-session preschool day care center. • Wood product consultant Rich- ard Phillipe discussed the different wood treatment processes used in the industry. While all wood preservatives are deadly chemicals designed to kill in- sects, stop rot and preserve, depend- ing on the final product application, there are many ways to go about it, he said. • Certified professional estimator James P. Roberts joined WFN as guest writer with an essay on basic estimat- ing principles. He warned against "shooting from the hip" and said that winning the job with a good price is better than winning it at any price. • Fencer Bud Lindau had recent- ly started his own electrostatic fence painting business in southern Cali- fornia, and said he's got more than enough work to keep busy. All Ameri- can Fence Painting provided a durable clean finish coat for metal fence that helps contractors get and guarantee jobs. The photo was shot by WFN man- aging editor Rick Henderson. • Output from western sawmills declined by 9.6 percent in 1993. • WFN contributing editor Jim Lucci continued with his series on monitoring safety in the workplace. • WFN contributing editor Herb Borner discussed special installations and laying out odd shaped plots. • Subcontractors were poised for action on payment entitlement issues. October 1999 Here are some articles and items that were being covered in the Octo- ber 1999 issue of World Fence News, 15 years ago this month. • The cover for October showed colorful fence and railing for the new Adelphia Coliseum, located on the east bank of the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennessee. This was the new home for the Tennessee Titans. (The stadium also serves as home base for the Tennessee State University Tigers and the site of the Music City Bowl.) The extensive fence and rail- ing system was supplied by Metalco Products division of AMESCO, Inc. of Oak Brook, Illinois. Included were over 8,000 Metalco "Grigliato" style electro-forged weld- ed steel panels in both polyester pow- der coat and plain galvanized finish.
