46 FEBRUARY 2017 | FUEL OIL NEWS | www.fueloilnews.com examined first? The first thing to do is make sure that the equip- ment is worth covering with a contract. In Figure 1 is a sample of the modified checklist that Dave Bessette and I put together in 1995 and if you like it, use it. If you can improve it, let me know since it's also posted on my website. We even left a place at the top so you can personalize it and, finally, if you don't like any of this don't blame Dave, he was just being a friend and helping me out. In Figure 2 is a sample of the new modified one. Some of the items that could go into a letter of instruction for this could also include the following: 1. Is the customer happy with his/her oil consumption? 2. Would they consider new equipment? 3. Do they have any heating problems? Don't forget to tell your service contract inspectors that you want your company's stickers and tags on the unit, and to remove all previous tags and clean up the unit a little, first impressions do count! Make sure the serviceman you send is in a clean uniform and a clean van, do not send the company piggy, you know the one, the sootmaster! l F O N See ya. *David Bessette is a past president of NAOHSM/OESP.
