WORLD FENCE NEWS • MAY 2015 • 31 ployees rose to 25 for a company to be required to have ADA compliant job descriptions, but to protect your- self, every company should have these ADA compliant job descriptions. They are really easy to write and I will help show you how to do that. Conversely, an employee who is not sure exactly what is expected of them cannot be comfortable and fully at ease in any employment situation. An informed employee is a hap- py employee, so these ADA compliant job descriptions are really good for everyone. Over the past 20 years or so I have written literally thousands of ADA compliant job descriptions and per- formance evaluations specifically for fencing contractors, fabricators and manufacturers all over the country, and now I would like to share one ex- ample. I had written dozens of JD's for a fence company in the Chicago area a few years ago. I want to share one of those with you in the hopes that this can serve as a valid reference point for you to use to customize specific job descriptions for your particular fence company. Remember that this particular ADA compliant job description was written for a specific fence contractor with specific needs and requirements. You must modify the job description for each individual to meet the needs of your fence company's functional organization. Also, the basics here are present- ed for general educational purposes; your own program must be tailored to your specific needs with proper pro- fessional input. There needs to be an ADA com- pliant job description for every em- ployee in the company, from top to bottom. I chose to use a job description for a field installation foreman for this example, but remember, you need to use this only as an example and a JD needs to be created for everyone from president to part-time employees. The ADA compliant job descrip- tions I utilize have these basic subsets. • Job description summary • Reporting relationships • Requirements • Working conditions • Essential functions • Principle duties • Standards of performance In order not to overstay my wel- come, I will continue this article by publishing an actual ADA compliant job description in the June edition of World Fence News. Until then, keep on smiling and remember to work smarter, not harder! Tom Luby, president of Prof- it Builders International (PBI), has developed the Roadmap to Success program, which offers business in- formation necessary to successfully operate a fencing company. He has conducted seminars as part of the ed- ucational programs at the FENCE- TECH and Jackpot conventions. Tom's entire Roadmap to Success program is available on CD, along with The Close and The Roadmap to Success user manu- al. Phone Tom at 941-981-3677 or e-mail him at tluby@profitbuilder. org.
