In its first nine months at Mountain State Harley-Davidson, sales grew by more than $560,000. Group wide, pre-owned sales were up half a percent, as the dealerships aggressively adver- tised that they buy used bikes. They also used Craigslist to buy vehicles from up to six hours away and add up to 10 used vehicle sales per month at some locations. Logan also added an in-house insurance agency, which increased floor traffic, sales opportunities and revenue. F&I penetration reached an average of $1,056 per copy, up $50 from 2014, and the group's PVR was up $242 per copy. Logan carries a dozen brands among its locations: Logan Motorcycle Sales in Logan, W.Va.; Hatfield McCoy Powersports in Belfry, Ky.; Keefer's of Logan in Logan, W.Va.; Rt 119 Powersports in Danville, W.Va.; Mountain State Harley-Davidson in Delbarton, W.Va.; and M&M Powersports in Staffordsville, Ky. TOP 5 RANKED In addition to naming Logan Powersports Group the No. 1 dealer for 2016, Powersports Business also ranked the rest of the top five dealers. At No. 2 was Freedom Powersports, based in Forth Worth, Texas. The 14-store operation and employer of 305 full-time staff developed a Culture Process and Performance team in 2015, leading the company in culture development and process implementation and increasing performance in all departments. No. 3 was Calculated Risk Motorcycle Group. The group is based out of Bedford, Texas, and it has five dealerships with a total of 216 full-time employees. After acquiring Harley-Davidson of Waco, the group doubled new bike sales at that store and increased over- all sales by 50 percent and grew margins. Forth on the ranked list was Harley-David- son of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. In October 2015, the dealership became the larg- est in the world for Harley-Davidson, with a 150,000-square-foot facility that includes destination features like a wedding chapel, a high-end tattoo and piercing studio, a customer lounge and arcade and a 49-seat movie theater. Rounding out the top five was Hattiesburg Cycles of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The deal- ership cut $20,000 from its bottom line by controlling its inventory and decreasing its flooring interest expense. This was accom- plished by changing its internal system for ordering major units. BEST IN CLASS Three dealerships were honored for standing out among their peers in a particular area. Best in Class awards were given for: Best Place to Work, Best Service Department and the Ray Price Community Service Award. Riverside Harley-Davidson of Riverside, California, was named Best Place to Work. The dealership focuses heavily on caring for its employees. On-boarding begins on Day 1 for new employees, and training continues for all staff throughout the year. Exceptional team members are also recognized daily, and special awards are given to staff who earn them. Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson of Southaven, Mississippi, earned the Best Service Department Award. The dealership reached 143.2 percent efficiency by setting goals with each of its techs and monitoring progress toward those goals daily. The most efficient tech each month earns special recognition, and everyone in service gets a spiff if the depart- ment reaches its overall goal. Bonuses like all- expenses-paid trips to Hawaii and demo bikes are occasionally awarded to staff. Powersports Business started a new Best in Class Award tradition at the 2016 dinner, when the inaugural Ray Price Community Service Award was unveiled. Price was the namesake of Ray Price, Inc.'s Ray Price Harley-Davidson and Ray Price Triumph, Power 50 dealers in 2013, 2014 and again in 2016. Price died in December, but he has left behind a legacy of community service through dealership events. Cycle Center of Denton, in Denton, Texas, was honored as the first Ray Price Community Service Award winner. Cycle Center of Denton hosts an annual Coats for Kids Ride that col- lects winter coats for local children. In 2014, about 2,700 coats were collected, and another 1,584 were donated in 2015, even though the ride was hampered by bad weather. Mark Hen- drix, general manager of Ray Price, Inc., was on hand to help honor Cycle Center of Denton. In addition to the crystal award given by Powers- ports Business, Ray Price Inc. staff is building a special award from Price's old motorcycle parts for Cycle Center of Denton. HALL OF FAME GO AZ Motorcycles of Scottsdale, Arizona, was honored as a Hall of Fame dealer for the third year in a row. GO AZ was the No. 1 Power 50 dealer in 2013 and 2014. Doug Roessing, gen- eral manager of sister store Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale, shared GO AZ's enthusiasm for continuing to be a part of the program during a short speech in front of the Power 50 dealers. Hall of Fame dealerships are those that have been named No. 1 for a total of two years. As 2016 is the second consecutive year that Logan Powersports Group is No. 1, the dealership now joins the Hall of Fame as well.
