BMW USA SALES DROP 12 PERCENT IN FEBRUARY With adverse weather affecting many motorcycle markets, BMW Motorrad USA sales declined by 12 percent in February with 823 motorcycles sold compared to the 935 sold in February 2014. The R 1200 GS Adventure was the best performing model in the month with 142 deliver- ies, supported by growth from the R 1200 GS, up 11 percent with sales of 113 units com- pared to 102 in February 2014. Year-to-date through Febru- ary, BMW Motorrad USA sales are at 1,484 bikes, a 2.8 percent decrease from the 1,524 sold in the same period in 2014. MARK MOONEY LAUNCHES POWERS- PORTS CONSULTING FIRM Mark Mooney PowerSports Consulting, a national con- sulting firm based in Santa Cruz, Calif., opened for busi- ness in March. The company offers training and mentoring programs for all departments in powersports dealerships. Mooney focuses on taking advantage of all of the opportunities that dealerships are being given daily, and utiliz- ing philosophies and practices that guide success. Why? Gone are the days that a dealership's sales department can carry the load of dealership profitability. Lasting and stable profitability begins with a solid founda- tion to build upon in all depart- ments and continues with a vision that always looks for ways to continually strengthen processes while empowering the individuals that follow them, Mooney says. Mooney has partnered with many of the major OEMs to provide dealership consulta- tion and sales training for their dealer bodies. He has delivered keynote speeches for OEMs, taught numerous classes on dealership management and trained sales teams throughout the U.S. Mooney was a speaker at the 2014 Powersports Busi- ness Institute @ AIMExpo, and he has been a regular blog- ger for PowersportsBusiness. com since 2011. Mooney has more than three S&S Cycle Inc. announced in March that Paul Langley has been named president of the company. Langley previously held executive positions with Dynojet, SuperTrapp and Vance & Hines. He comes to S&S directly from the Motorsport Aftermarket Group (MAG), where he served as vice president of International Strategy and OEM Relations. "It is truly an honor to be welcomed into the S&S family, and it is my pledge to work each day to live up to the responsibility I have been entrusted with. S&S stands as one of the great icons of the V-twin industry," Langley said. Hot Products INSIDE 2015 catalog is largest in Klock Werks history Mitchell, S.D.-based Klock Werks Kustom Cycles, has launched its 2015 product catalog. The new catalog features Klock Werks brand parts for Harley-David- son, Honda, Kawasaki, Victory and Indian motorcycles, and more. "We are proud to share the expansive Klock Werks brand parts line in this new catalog. Our market- ing department really stepped up the show- case of our largest parts offering in Klock Werks history," said COO Dan Cheeseman. New products introduced in the catalog include Klock Werks' patented Flare Wind- shield for 2015 Road Glide models, Fairing Vent Screens for FLH and FLTR, Saddlebag Exten- sions and Hinge Inserts for new model bikes, the Tuck-It Oil cooler relocation kit for big wheel bagger projects, handlebars and new options for Indian Motorcycles. The Klock Werks Flare Windshield section leads the way as the top-selling product line. PSB Japanese OEMs decrease January production Out of the four major OEMs based in Japan, only one managed to increase its production and exports in January, leaving the rest in double-digit losses according to data from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). Yamaha was the only OEM to increase its exports, up by 38.5 percent with 17,819 exported units. Honda decreased exports by 15.2 percent with 8,080 units. Suzuki was also down by 24.3 percent with 9,853 bikes exported, and Kawasaki had the greatest percentage decrease, down 37.9 percent with 4,216 units. All four companies exported a total of 39,968 units, with 12,655 exported to North America (10,114 of which were exported to the U.S.). Production mirrored export data, with Yamaha once again being the only OEM to increase its production out of the four. Yamaha was up 11.4 percent to 19,194 units. Honda had the small- est decrease in production, down 14.4 percent with 13,107 units. Suzuki, with 11,122 bikes, decreased its production by 24 percent. Finally, Kawasaki was down 36.8 percent to 6,264 units produced. Motorcycle production in each class was also down. The 50cc and under class was down 29 percent to 4,708 units. The 51-125cc class was down 12.6 percent to 1,874 units, and the 126-250cc class was down 14.8 percent with 5,630 bikes produced. The over 250cc class was down 10.4 percent to 37,463 units. LONSKI HIRES FORMER MMI EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR Lonski and Associates, LLC announced the addition of Amy Beyer, former Motorcycle Mechanics Institute employ- ment advisor, to the firm's roster. During her seven-year career with MMI Orlando, Beyer placed an average of 20 graduates per month. In addition, she culti- vated and maintained relation- ships with hundreds of dealer- ship owners and hiring managers. There are thousands of MMI graduates from coast to coast who relied on Beyer and benefitted from her tenacity and deep knowledge of the dealership landscape. "The powersports industry is growing again, and it's more critical than ever for employers to hire top talent to keep up with customer demand.
