MOTOMARATHON HEADING TO WISCONSIN IN MAY The Motomarathon Association will bring its long-distance, motorcycle sport-touring format to Wisconsin from May 29-June 1. The 2015 Wisconsin Motomara- thon will start and end in Wisconsin Dells with overnights in Silver City, Mich., and Hayward, Wis. "Our Wisconsin routemasters have designed a scenic backroad adventure, circum- navigating the entire state through its forests, prairies, rivers, lakes, hills, dales and dells," said Motomarathon founder John Metzger. "In our quest to ride America's great motorcy- cling regions, we're excited to discover what Wisconsin has to offer." For a $50 fee, participants will receive a precisely engineered route for each day, and a copy of Metzger's book "Motorcycling Through Midlife," which he wrote to help baby boomers manage the danger- ous adolescent urges of "midlife crisis" through his personal jour- ney on a motorcycle. Motomarathon routes and checkpoints are kept secret until the night before each day's ride. Participants complete a series of self-recorded checkpoints, photo- graphing their badge numbers at designated landmarks. For more information, visit www.motomarathon.com. MALCOLM SMITH DONATES HIS HUSQVARNA FROM 'ON ANY SUNDAY' The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame announced that a famous motorcycle has been added to its permanent collection: the 1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross that AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend Malcolm Smith rode in the movie, "On Any Sunday." The motorcycle, previously loaned for display at the Hall of Fame, was owned and donated by Smith, who is known affection- ately as "Malcolm" by his legions of fans. "A true legend of motorcycling, Malcolm Smith is one of the Hall of Fame's most recog- nizable members," said AMA president and CEO Rob Dingman. "We're humbled and inspired by this memorable gift. Like Malcolm himself, this Husqvarna has launched many motorcycling dreams, and we're honored to give it a permanent home in the AMA Motor- cycle Hall of Fame." Smith said that he was moved to donate the historic motorcycle, so it would con- tinue to promote motorcycling as a fun and exciting sport. "Many remember 'On Any Sunday' as the reason they started riding," Smith said, "and I continue to hear it today. Whenever I'm at a motorcycle event, people always tell me that watching me enjoying riding so much in the movie was the reason they got into bikes, and they're so happy they did. I always ask them what their lives would have been like if they hadn't discovered motorcycles. ... They can't imagine it!" "I'm happy to donate my 'On Any Sunday' Husky to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, where it can continue to inspire people about motorcycling and remind everyone how much fun it is," Smith said. Many remember this Husqvarna 400 as the motorcycle that inspired their love of rid- ing. Now, those same fans — as well as future motorcyclists — can admire this historic machine for posterity as a part of the perma- nent collection of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Pickerington, Ohio. Soon, fans will be able to learn more about Smith in the upcoming "Malcolm! The Auto- biography," which will include an entire chapter on "On Any Sunday."
