FOCUS PSB Metric bikes 28 • October 5, 2015 • Powersports Business www.PowersportsBusiness.com 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 300 is newest model to crack top 10 BY LISA PELISSIER CONTRIBUTING WRITER Here's a look at how metric motorcycles fared in searches from January through July 2015 on Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com: TOP 10 METRIC BIKES Sport bikes dominated the top 10 lists of the big four Japanese manufacturers in searches in the first seven months of the year on KBB.com. All four lists were populated by nine or 10 sport bikes. For Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha, the 600cc sport bikes prevailed. The Honda CBR600RR took six of its 10 spots. The Suzuki GSX-R600 claimed five of its 10 spots. The Yamaha YZF-R6 took seven of its 10 spots. Kawasaki was the only manufacturer that did not have anything but sport bikes in its top 10 list. The Kawasaki top 10 list was dominated by smaller bikes, with the Ninja 250R and Ninja 300 together holding seven spots. Kawasaki was the only manufacturer with a 2014 model-year vehicle, the Ninja 300, in its top 10. Although total KBB.com web hits have been up for 2015 YTD, all of the models in the top 10 most-researched Japanese motorcycles lists showed a drop in interest. TOP 10 METRIC CRUISERS Honda dominated the top 10 metric cruisers so far for 2015, holding nine spots. The other spot was taken by the Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic. Six of the nine Hondas on the list were variations of the Honda Shadow 750 series. The remaining Hondas were VTX1300C motorcycles. The top 10 metric cruisers showed an aver- age drop of 9 percent in KBB.com web hits. TOP 10 MODEL-YEAR 2015 METRIC CRUISERS Two cruisers tied in the 10th position for KBB.com web hits, putting 11 models on the top 10 model-year 2015 metric cruisers list. Nine of the top 11 model-year 2015 met- ric cruisers were non-touring street bikes. The two touring bikes on the list were the Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Voyager and the Honda Gold Wing F6B Deluxe. The top 10 model-year 2015 metric cruisers represent consumer interest in a broad range of engine sizes, encompassing bikes displacing 250cc to 1800cc. The No. 1 and No. 2 most-researched motorcycles on this list were new for the 2015 model year: the Kawasaki Vulcan S and the Yamaha SR400. Eight bikes on this list showed a month- over-month increase in KBB.com web hits for July over June 2015.
