"We're excited to have them leading the Parts Unlimited sales team in our continued efforts to support our entire dealer network." Lou Lopez, the former national sales man- ager at Parts Unlimited, has departed the com- pany after more than 14 years. AMERICA'S POWERSPORTS SOLD TO CMG POWERSPORTS Once the second largest powersports group in the country, America's PowerSports, Inc. (APS) sold to CMG PowerSports, Inc. in early July. Comprised of both Harley- Davidson and multi-line import stores, APS peaked in 2008 with 20 dealerships and $230 million in revenue. The company, headquartered in Allen, Texas, sold its five remaining dealerships to CMG, led by longtime automotive and motor- cycle dealer William Coulter and his partners Mark Tkach and Robert Dodson. The company's operations will be led by Dodson, a 20-year veteran in the industry with experience in both the H-D and import arenas. Dodson, a former partner/operator and VP of operations for APS, plans to restore APS to its place as a well-respected, top-performing dealer group. Coulter, Tkach and Dodson have more than 70 years of combined experience in the industry, a history of developing talent and a reputation as the best in the business. "My partners and I are extremely excited about this opportunity," stated Coulter. "These are five very nice stores in great communities. We hope to bring much-needed stability to the staff and the riding community in these areas after a lengthy sales process. I am confident that under Robert's leadership, these stores will be performing at a high level once again." The new APS will continue to operate in the Allen, Texas. MIC ADDS TO COMMUNICATIONS STAFF Andria Yu, former editor at USA Today, has joined the Motorcycle Industry Council as director of communications. She is a longtime journalist who has been riding motorcycles more than 15 years. Yu worked with Virginia-based USA Today for 10 years, starting as deputy night editor and rising to Page One editor, managing the con- tent and design of the front page as well as the entire print news section of one of the nation's largest print circulation newspapers. Prior to her time at USA Today, Yu was a copy editor then night/production editor at The Baltimore Sun. "With her strong knowledge of major mainstream media, her connections to various writers and editors and with her genuine pas- sion for motorcycling, we expect Andria to be a tremendous asset to our communications program and our ongoing outreach efforts, among an even wider array of traditional and social media outlets," said Ty van Hooydonk, MIC vice president of communications. "She's a hardcore motorcyclist, too. We once invited her to the Indy MotoGP, and she declined a flight there, opting to ride her own bike from Maryland to Indiana." A graduate of New York University, Yu will remain on the East Coast for the time being, giving MIC Communications and Motorcy- cles.org quicker and easier access to New York City media and other East Coast outlets. "I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with the MIC and the motorcycle industry at such an exciting time — especially as a woman rider," Yu said. "Manufacturers have been doing a tremendous job developing bikes and gear for every type of rider, and I am eager to help with outreach. Through digital and social media, as well as traditional media, I see new opportunities to inspire more people to ride and to ride safe." She currently owns four motorcycles and an ATV. She has continued her riding educa- tion with an MSF Advanced RiderCourse, the Kevin Schwantz School, off-road training and a few track days. HINSHAW'S SELLS TO LOCAL BMW, DUCATI DEALERSHIP OWNERS Established in 1961, Hinshaw's Motorcycle Store in Auburn, Wash., has been sold to local BMW and Ducati dealership owners. Ron and Laura Orr sold Hinshaw's to Howard Crow, according to George C. Chaconas of Perfor- mance Brokerage Services. Duane Hinshaw, founder of Hinshaw's Motorcycle Stores, has been selling scooters and motorcycles since 1961, beginning with the Cushman and Honda brands in Enum- claw, Washington. In 1964, Hinshaw welcomed into the busi- ness his sons Burke and Paul and opened a second location in Auburn. Soon thereafter, the Enumclaw location was closed, and a new facility was opened in Puyallup. In 1989, the Puyallup location was consolidated with the Auburn location. Orr, the dealership's longtime general manager, purchased the dealership from the Hinshaw family in 1996 along with his wife Laura. He started with Hinshaw's in 1976 and was very familiar with the business philosophy and legacy of the Hinshaw family. In 2003, the dealership relocated to its current location at 1611 West Valley Highway South in Auburn, where it boasts a 40,000-square-foot facility and an additional building built in 2014 for the Indian and Victory franchises. Chaconas contacted Crow, who owns and operates BMW and Ducati of Seattle and Ducati of Bellevue, to facilitate the sales transaction. Hinshaw's Motorcycle Store will con- tinue to operate in its current location, HOT NEWS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 3 See Hot News, Page 5 Ex-racer to promote U.S. Motorcycle Coaching Association Husqvarna Motorcycles has announced its partnership with AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame racer and industry icon Jeff Emig. Emig will focus on supporting the brand's initiatives, projects and products. Emig brings with him a broad range of experience as both a former championship-winning racer and a profes- sional broadcast commentator. His appeal to the Husqvarna brand, recognition as a skilled professional and enthusiasm for seeing con- tinued industry success make Emig a perfect spokesperson for the brand. The timing of this new partnership aligns perfectly with the recent formation of the United States Motorcycle Coaching Associa- tion (USMCA), a not-for-profit organization founded by industry professionals who came together for the greater good of the industry, the sport, the coach and the rider. Emig's pri- mary focus as a brand ambassador is to engage on behalf of Husqvarna with the USMCA. The creation of the USMCA is aimed at lowering the barriers to entry for new motorcyclists, enhanc- ing the safety of riders, setting standards of best practices and raising the overall level of profes- sionalism in the motor- cycle industry. "Husqvarna has such a rich heritage in motorcycling, and I am proud to be a part of the brand moving forward. Since 1903, Husqvarna has been pioneering advancements in the industry. Now, with the formation of the U.S. Motorcycle Coaching Association, it gives me a great opportunity to contribute to the future of the sport that I love so much. Not to mention, what blast it was to jump on the all-new TC 250 2-stroke! My passion for motorcycles aligns perfectly with Husqvarna, so I'm looking forward to working together with Husqvarna and creating a better future for the new riders to come, said Emig." Husqvarna Motorcycles strongly believes in the importance of this foundation, and Emig's involvement will only bring forward momentum to this industry-wide initiative. Current advisor and acting president of the USMCA, Mark Blackwell, also sees the con- nection between Emig and association critical to success. "We are thrilled to have Jeff partner with Husqvarna Motorcycles as brand ambas- sador. His enthusiasm for this iconic, pioneering brand is tremendous. I am espe- cially excited about his enthusiasm for the USMCA initiative and believe his support will be very helpful as the word of this effort spreads and gains support and momentum," Blackwell said.
