48 • July 11, 2016 • Powersports Business ATV/UTV www.PowersportsBusiness.com Three new side-by-sides highlighted in the reveal BRP introduced in early June its most com- plete lineup of Can-Am Off-Road vehicles to date. The 2017 Can-Am ATV and side-by-side lineup features new models with more spe- cialized packages and enhanced performance, along with multiple new entry-level options, further solidifying Can-Am's leadership in the industry. "We've optimized the 2017 Can-Am Off- Road lineup to benefit both our dealer network and customers," said Anne Bélec, SVP Global Brand, Communications and PAC at BRP. "This includes introducing more specialized vehicles to the portfolio, while at the same time scaling back in some areas. These changes reflect our commitment to expand the Can- Am Off-Road lineup, while staying true to our brand DNA, which is grounded in performance and innovation." THREE NEW SIDE-BY-SIDES First, Can-Am developed in close collabora- tion with expert hunters, is an all-new Can-Am Defender Mossy Oak Hunting Edition that features a purpose-built, industry-exclusive, hunting-ready package with exclusive Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo. This new pack- age, along with the 2017 Defender MAX family unveiled in March, gives Can-Am a better foot- print in the hunting segment of the industry. Two available heavy-duty Rotax V-twin engines (72 hp HD10 or 50 hp HD8) are mated to a PRO-TORQ transmission and TTA-HD rear suspension, giving the Defender side-by- side vehicles enough muscle and poise to con- quer nearly any task. The unit is built tough, combining a sturdy, high-strength chassis with class-leading towing, hauling and payload capacities. No break-in requirements mean owners can focus on chores and have the confidence to take on difficult tasks and challenging trails. A ver- satile four-mode traction system, three select- able engine operating modes and Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) all add up to unbeatable handling for work and trail riding. All Defender vehicles are built with clever and adaptable solutions to work smarter. The Defender family of vehicles offers a spacious, comfortable and intuitive cock- pit that has been configured to improve entry/exit as well as sight lines. A VERSA- PRO bench seat features a 40/20/40 profile for three adults as well as plenty of modularity. An exclusive removable toolbox, available removable waterproof under seat storage and multiple cup holders are just some of the many integrated conveniences. The 72 hp Rotax HD10 V-twin is specifi- cally tuned for serious work but also offers 61 ft.-lbs. torque and peak torque at lower rpms for optimal delivery for recreational use. At 4,000 rpms, the HD10 offers 20 percent more torque than the top selling competitor of the segment. The work-focused Rotax HD8 V-twin deliv- ers 50 horsepower and 50 ft.-lbs. torque for tough tasks. The V-twin engines are located in the rear of the Defender chassis to reduce noise, reduce cockpit heat, improve access and reduce vibration. The PRO-TORQ transmission is calibrated to meet the demands of the Defender side-by- side vehicles and includes a Quick Response System (QRS) to enhance low-speed riding, deliver smoother and more responsive power delivery and offer precise engagement. A work-specific low gear ensures optimal torque delivery for heavy loads. At low speeds, opti- mized ventilation improves belt durability and ensures more efficient power transfer. Electronic Drive Belt Protection monitors the CVT belt to determine its condition and alert the driver to be in low gear. With zero break-in maintenance required and a yearly maintenance schedule, the Defender side-by-side vehicles reduce total maintenance costs to the buyer. The yearly advised maintenance is 1,865 miles (3,000 km) or 200 hours. Along with reduced main- tenance, the engine and transmission are more do-it-yourself service friendly, offering easier access to key maintenance items. Can-Am engineers, gathering insights and feedback from end-users, created a convenient platform for service, improving access to com- ponents with a special focus on do-it-yourself and ease of maintenance. A service center is located beneath the front hood with easy access to brake fluid container, toolkit, fuse box and diagnostic connector. At the rear-end, critical elements such as the engine bay, oil dipstick, air filter, CVT, transmission and coolant are also easily reachable thanks to the wide open- ing-box possibility. Other critical parts, such as the battery, bushings, drainage and cleaning holes and lighting bulbs, have been also strate- gically positioned for a quick access. The highly durable cargo box has a 1,000 pounds/454 kg (600 pounds/272.2 kg in the California model) load capacity and has dump assist levers. It also features a versatile configu- ration that can create a customizable dual-level setup or completely separate compartments. Strategic features include 5-gallon (18.9-liter) pail recesses, integrated anchors on the side- walls and several tie-down points for added convenience. To fully optimize the sizeable cargo box, consumers can divide up the box using the integrated recesses. The box allows for both 1-by-3-inch and plywood separators and accepts bed extenders for refining the bed's overall dimensions. The cargo box is adaptable to accept 14 LinQ quick-attach accessories for further customization. Complete with cable supports and metal bars, the reinforced tailgate can withstand ordi- nary farm use and serve as a seat during a lunch break (max weight: 250 pounds/113.4 kg). For ease of usage, it can also be removed in seconds without tools. The Defender line of utility side-by-side vehicles is also available with the highly popular and value-added XT package, which includes a winch, large cast-aluminum wheels, roof and more for a customized fit-and-finish. The winch is designed to handle heavy-duty loads at the work site and on the trail, thanks to its 4,500-pound capacity and roller fairlead. A convenient button was also added to the console on the left side of the steering wheel for easy operation. Additionally, Can-Am further cements itself as an industry leader in the side-by-side mud segment with an all-new, four-person Can-Am Maverick MAX X mr 1000R side-by- side vehicle built to outperform in even the most demanding settings. Also new as a new point-of-entry into the Maverick lineup in the 60-inch family is the Maverick xc 1000R side-by-side vehicle, which is a DPS-less option offered at a lower price. ATV LINEUP Outlander and Outlander L ATV models are now unified under the Outlander name, creat- ing one family that offers the most horsepower in the industry in every engine class. With value in mind, the 2017 Outlander 450 ATV includes many Outlander family performance features at a lower price point. Also new are the Outlander XT 570 and Outlander MAX XT 570 models, which are the most equipped mid-size ATVs on the market for the price. Rounding out the changes is a new Outlander 6x6 DPS 650 model as the new point-of-entry price in the 6x6 ATV category. Other notable changes in the Can-Am ATV lineup include the addition of a Can-Am Ren- egade X mr 570 vehicle, purpose-built for mud, and an Outlander Mossy Oak Hunting Edition 1000R ATV. The Mossy Oak Hunting Edi- tion is the flagship Can-Am ATV for hunters with its superior performance, capability and camouflage design. The Can-Am DS 70 ATV also returns the lineup and is suitable for riders 6 years of age and older.
